Fabrazyme Infusion Therapy
See why thousands of patients choose our centers as their preferred destination for ongoing care, including Fabrazyme infusion treatments.
Fabrazyme is a biologic therapy that is indicated to treat:
- Adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older with confirmed Fabry disease
What Is Fabrazyme?
Fabrazyme (agalsidase beta) is a prescription biologic medication administered for patients in all IV LEAGUE INFUSION SERVICES centers via IV infusion.
How Fabrazyme Works
Fabrazyme is an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) that supplies the body with the enzyme that is missing or deficient in patients with Fabry disease. This missing or deficient enzyme typically clears GL-3 buildup in cells. For people with Fabry disease taking Fabrazyme, the therapy replaces these enzymes in order to clear GL-3 buildup.
What Is Fabrazyme Used For?
Doctors order agalsidase beta to treat:
- Adult and pediatric patients 2 years of age and older with confirmed Fabry disease
Fabrazyme Infusion Dosage and Administration
Patients receive agalsidase beta intravenously. Treatment time for a Fabrazyme infusion at a medical clinic like IV LEAGUE INFUSION SERVICES usually lasts between two to three hours.
Dosage and Frequency
Before receiving their first intravenous infusion of agalsidase beta, the ordering physician determines the patient’s dose. This dose depends on the patient’s weight as well as the severity of the condition for which he or she is receiving treatment.
Fabrazyme infusions are usually administered every two weeks.
Administering Fabrazyme via IV Infusion
- The nurse prepares the patient’s arm by using rubbing alcohol to sterilize the location that is being used to insert the IV needle.
- Following needle insertion, the IV line is held in place with tape.
- The nurse attaches the patient’s IV line to the line coming down from the bag of medication.
Every half-an-hour, the patient’s nurse takes his or her vitals.
