Onpattro Infusion Therapy

See why thousands of patients choose our centers as their preferred destination for ongoing care, including Onpattro infusion treatments.

Onpattro is a biologic therapy that is indicated to treat:

  • Hereditary ATTR (hATTR) amyloidosis

What Is Onpattro?

Onpattro, generically known as patisiran, is a prescription infusion medication used to treat the polyneuropathy in patients suffering from hereditary ATTR amyloidosis.

How Onpattro Works

Patients with hereditary ATTR amyloidosis have a genetic variant causing a protein called transthyretin (TTR) to form clusters called amyloid deposits. Onpattro works by decreasing the amount of the TTR protein. This helps to decrease the number of amyloid deposits in the body and may result in fewer symptoms.

What Is Onpattro Used For?

Doctors order patisiran to treat:

  • Hereditary ATTR (hATTR) amyloidosis

Onpattro Infusion Dosage and Administration

Patients receive patisiran intravenously. Treatment time for an Onpattro infusion at a medical clinic like IV LEAGUE INFUSION SERVICES usually lasts around 80 minutes.

Dosage and Frequency

Before receiving their first intravenous infusion of patisiran, the ordering physician determines the patient’s dose. This dose depends on the patient’s weight as well as the severity of the condition for which he or she is receiving treatment.

Doses are typically administered once every three weeks.

Administering Onpattro via IV Infusion

  1. The nurse prepares the patient’s arm by using rubbing alcohol to sterilize the location that is being used to insert the IV needle.
  2. Following needle insertion, the IV line is held in place with tape.
  3. The nurse attaches the patient’s IV line to the line coming down from the bag of medication.

Every half-an-hour, the patient’s nurse takes his or her vitals.

Onpattro Infusion Side Effects

As with all medications, side effects are possible.

Common side effects include:

  • Respiratory infections, such as colds, sinus infections, and nasal congestion
  • Infusion-related reactions

Onpattro also causes low Vitamin A levels. Your referring physician may recommend Vitamin A supplements when being treated with Onpattro.

How To Prepare for an Onpattro Infusion

Before treatment, patients should get a good night’s sleep. In addition, they need to drink an adequate amount of fluid and eat a meal before their Onpattro IV infusion treatment at IV LEAGUE INFUSION SERVICES.
